"I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things."
— Douglas Adams
IP addresses have been the backbone for the Internet for over 25 years - today were the day we ran out of addresses - kind of the same as the telephone company running out of phone numbers AND area codes - so what does that mean?
A phone company would just make the numbers longer and suddenly there would be 10 or 100 times more numbers - Internet IPv6 does that and the standard was introduced over 10 years ago but hardly used - because most software out there could only understand the old standard - and no programmer wants to support multiple standards if avoidable
Lot of software have hardcoded assumptions of the 32bit length of an IPv4 address.
It will be "fun" to see what will break and go out of business over the next 12 month - kind of the Y2K disaster which never happened
